need a home made carpet cleaner?
My carpet needs cleaning and I have a good carpet cleaning machine, but the chemicals are so expensive. I'm on a really tight budget.
Some things I have on hand are white vinegar, laundry detergent, bleach, dish soap...simple stuff like that. I don't think I have baking soda, which I've seen in some other suggestions.
The stain isn't too bad, I spilled an ashtray on some beige carpet then it got wet. It looks terrible, but I don't think it should be too hard to get out. I just need to know some things I could use in the machine that would work.
thanks for the help in advance!
You have to be careful with detergents that aren't designed for carpets. They will clean well, but they will also leave a residue behind that's very hard to remove. The residue will attract more dirt and make it obvious where you cleaned over time.
White vinegar can be an good mild cleanser and is nice because it doesn't really leave a residue behind. It doesn't cut any grease or oil stains, however. For that you need a soap.
I would suggest using the vinegar with just a very small amount of dish washing detergent and rinsing very well.
