Why are people desperate for England to be a power?
Cant we just accept our place as a European Satellite state and enjoy the benefits? Instead of clasping onto Ye Olde Empire, quoting Churchill and having ago at "bloody immgrants".
Does it matter that we no longer have the ability to sail round the world and pillage what we want for our own greed?
Are you arguing for England to be a power -- i.e. have national sovereignty -- or for the United Kingdom to exercise more influence in the world than it currently does? There are two possible questions here. There seems to be greater demand than ever before for England to gain independence from the rest of the UK.
As far as the UK accepting its position as a European satellite state, it is only now that it is dawning on people just what it means to have given away our sovereignty. We are now helpless pawns. As far as England is concerned (as opposed to other constituent countries of the UK) it is hard to perceive the benefits.
