I am wondering what exactly a ocean-ocean convergence plate boundary is. A answer would be great.?
I am doing a research project for a competition. Please don"t just answer, please be able to back yourself up.
it is called an island arc.
An island arc occurs near a subduction zone. A subduction zone occurs where oceanic crust dives into the earth's mantle and melts. The subducting plate always sinks beneath another plate, in this case another oceanic plate.
When the oceanic crust melt, the molten rock then rises to the surface and forms volcanoes. These volcanoes form the islands in the island arc.
Examples of island arcs include the Lesser Antilles (in the Caribbean)
The Marianas (in the Pacific)
The Ryuku Islands (south of Japan)
