What is the white powder left in the filter when I just run water thru the coffee pot?
This coffee maker is only used for hot water. I always put in a filter and then put water in the resevoir and when it's done I have hot water. Later on I look at the filter and there is a small amount of white powder. What is that?
Salts and calcium that are in your water that have evaporated out into the filter.
I'm not talking about table salt--though sodium chloride is probably one component of the residue. There are various types of salt that are commonly found in tap water--and even some other chemicals, that will naturally form a residue in your filter. You can often find the same residue gunked on the inside of your coffeepot, around your faucet opening, and in your shower.
